“ Hot summer is a warning of nature to humans.”

 

 

 

Today I would like to share my thoughts about obvious yet forgotten nature around us. As I heard a lot of news on nature this week, it came to my mind about the gratitude of the forgotten nature around us. I've compiled issues about nature that I've encountered.

 

 

 

The first is the threat of nature. I usually enjoy watching disaster movies, but recently in China, a giant whirlwind that I've seen in movies has hit the town, and the temperature of Alaska has reached 30 degrees. If it feels remoted and doesn't feel real, think about the heat wave. The summer in Korea is really hot renewing the highest temperature every year. I felt it very much this weekend, ironically we turn on the air conditioner that makes the earth hotter to cool off the heat. Not like the old saying “I get what I give.” But more like “what I give, but get back more."

 

 

 

The second is human effort to overcome this problem. There are about three trillion trees on the planet and after analyzing the Earth's area, we can plant three trillion more trees in the future. As we can see, long-term plant planning and research by domestic companies that use waste food as their energy source, efforts for human and the earth are being made around the world.

 

 

 

These days, I felt one thing meeting the artisans who used natural materials such as leather, hanji, yu-gi, and lacquer. Our ancestors have long recognized and preserved the excellence of the materials. It occurred to me that it was not developed further because of the lack of technology but they knew it wasn't necessary to develop further. In this weekend, I recognized the importance of nature and thought more about it. Also I think I need to pay more attention to the plants which I'm growing right now, Ito, Junji and Eve.

 

 

 

오늘은 정말 당연하지만 매 순간 잊고 살아가는 우리 주변 자연의 대한 생각을 나누고자 합니다. 이번 주는 유독 자연과 관련된 이슈들을 많이 접하다 보니 그동안 저 또한 잊고 살아가던 자연의 고마움이 문득 떠올랐습니다. 자연에 관한 내용들을 제가 접했던 이슈들과 함께 정리했습니다.

첫 번째는 자연의 위협입니다. 평소 재난 영화를 즐겨보는데 최근 중국에서 영화에서나 보던 거대한 회오리가 마을을 덮쳐 큰 피해를 입히고, 알래스카의 기온이 30도에 이르는 등 비정상적인 지구 활동들이 감지되고 있습니다. 조금은 멀게 느껴져 실감이 나지 않는다면 가까운 일례로 폭염입니다. 매해 최고기온을 기록하고 있는 한국의 여름은 정말 불볕더위입니다. 이번 주말에도 절실히 느꼈는데요, 아이러니한 것은 더위를 식히기 위해 지구를 더 뜨겁게 하는 에어컨을 켠다는 겁니다. 옛말에 주는 대로 받는다가 아닌, 말로 주고 되로 받는다는 말이 생각나는 뜨거운 주말이었습니다.

 

 

 

두 번째는 이를 극복하기 위한 인간의 노력입니다. 지구에는 약 3조 그루에 나무가 있는데 지구 면적을 분석한 결과 앞으로 3조 그루의 나무를 더 심을 수가 있다고 합니다. 이에 따라 장기적인 플랜트 계획을 세우는 노력부터 시작해서 폐식용유를 에너지원으로 사용하는 국내 기업의 연구 등 자연을 위한, 결국 인간을 위한 노력들이 세계 곳곳에서 진행되고 있습니다.

 

 

 

요즘 가죽, 한지, 유기, 옻칠 등 천연소재를 활용하여 작업하는 장인들을 만나면서 한 가지 느낀 점이 있습니다. 우리 조상들은 오래전부터 이미 소재의 우수성을 인지하고 보전해왔다는 것입니다. 당시 기술력이 부족해서 개발을 하지 못한 것이 아닌 더 이상 개발할 필요 없이 완벽한 소재임을 이미 알고 있었다는 생각이 들었습니다. 자연의 소중함을 인지하고 조금 더 생각해 볼 수 있는 주말이었고 지금 현재 제가 기르고 있는 식물 이토, 준지, 이브에게 조금 더 신경을 써줘야 할 것 같습니다.
